Workshop for Practice Nurses and Practice Managers

A multi-system approach to cervical cancer prevention
Practice nurses are ideally placed to play an active role in increasing participation rates. This 2-hour workshop developed by PapScreen Victoria and Cancer Council Victoria provides Division 1 and 2 practice nurses who are not accredited Pap test providers with practical ways of increasing cervical screening rates in their community.

The workshop also covers current recommendations for HPV vaccinations and its implications for cervical screening.

These workshops are coordinated by individual Divisions of General Practice. Contact your local division to see if they have any workshops scheduled and to register.

General practitioners

GPs take 80% of Pap tests in Victoria, so it is essential that GPs are confident they are using the correct Pap test technique.

In conjunction with the Victorian Cytology Service, PapScreen Victoria offers an active learning module (ALM) to assist GPs to achieve best practice in cervical screening.

PapScreen provides resources and presenters for the day. Financial support for catering and venue hire will also be offered to participating Divisions of General Practice. GPs will accrue 40 CPD points for completing this ALM.

For further information please email Kirsten Hausknecht or call 03 9635 5403.

Case study: Sue

I work at the Well Women's Clinic at the Royal Women's Hospital in Parkville.

I trained to be a Pap test provider because I understood women wanted a female practitioner.
