Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are up to five times more likely to die from cervical cancer than other women in Australia.
This suggests that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are less likely to have regular Pap tests than other women in Australia, potentially because of difficulties accessing Pap tests, or cultural barriers.
It is very important that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who have ever been sexually active have Pap tests every two years between the ages of 18 and 70.

Lucy's story
I've always been very aware of the importance of regular Pap tests, as my Mum had early-stage cervical cancer in her 30s.
She encouraged me to start having regular Pap tests when I turned 18 and I followed her advice, albeit begrudgingly!
